Police arrest gunman who fatally shot man for snatching his chain outside Washington Heights bodega
New York police have apprehended a suspect who allegedly shot a man in self-defense after the man attempted to rob him outside a bodega in Washington Heights last week, according to authorities.
Victor Jones, a 47-year-old man, was taken into custody around 11 p.m. on Thursday. He is facing charges of murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment, according to officials.
Police arrived at 67 Macombs Place in response to a 911 call reporting a shooting at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 23rd.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they saw Daniel Straker, 48 years old, with a gunshot wound to his back.
According to the Daily News reported, Straker was caught on surveillance camera grabbing a chain from Jones just before he proceeded to open fire.
Straker was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals / Harlem, where he was pronounced dead.
