Ivey grants $1.7 million for low-income assistance programs
Governor Kay Ivey has recently granted $1.7 million to organizations dedicated to helping low-income individuals in Alabama achieve financial independence. This funding aims to support the efforts of these organizations in assisting Alabamians in becoming self-sufficient economically.
The funds will be distributed to 18 community action organizations that assist Alabamians across the state, thanks to the Community Services Block Grants.
“During difficult times, it is not uncommon for individuals to require assistance in order to regain their strength,” stated Ivey.
“These agencies not only offer immediate emergency assistance but also play a crucial role in helping individuals establish a sustainable future. I am delighted to present these grants to support these invaluable programs.”
The organizations provide a range of services to individuals, including helping them find employment, offering training programs to improve budgeting skills, providing assistance with education, helping secure adequate housing, and offering food and health services.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has made grants available to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for administration.
ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell expressed his belief that the purpose of these programs is to equip low-income residents with the necessary resources to sustain themselves presently and in the long run. He further stated that ADECA is pleased to collaborate with Governor Ivey in backing these agencies and their all-encompassing services.
