One person dead after early morning shooting on southwest side of Indianapolis
An 18-year-old man lost his life in a tragic shooting incident that took place on the southwest side of Indianapolis early Wednesday morning.
IMPD officers responded to a report of a person shot at 3201 S. Holt Road, shortly before 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Upon their arrival, investigators discovered a person lying in the street. The victim was pronounced deceased by medics at the scene.
The man has been identified as 18-year-old Wyatt Payton by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
The police believe that there was a disturbance between Payton and another person. During the altercation, a third party got involved and shot the victim.
A teenage male who was not present at the scene initially, later arrived and was apprehended by the authorities. Following an interrogation, the teenager was ultimately released.
Indianapolis has recorded at least 206 homicides this year, with the shooting death being the most recent one.
