In the Bronx, a 6-story building partially collapses: ‘We’re looking for life… that’s our major goal.’
According to officials, a building partially collapsed in the Bronx on Monday afternoon.
According to the FDNY, about 3:30 p.m., the corner of a six-story residential building at 1915 Billingsley Terrace in Morris Height partially crashed.
After the partial collapse, a Citizen App video showed several stories of the building exposed and a mound of debris in the street.
The FDNY searched for probable victims in the rubble for hours and did not find anyone until late Monday night, according to officials. According to authorities, however, two citizens were injured while leaving.
“This is an ongoing operation. Our members are still conducting search and rescue and will do so until we either find someone or confirm that there is no one under that rubble,” FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh had said.
The Department of Buildings of New York City is on the scene investigating the reason of the partial collapse.
Witnesses reported hearing loud cracking noises a few minutes before the partial collapse, prompting several individuals to flee the building.
A deli is located in the building where the fall occurred, according to a worker at a nearby business. According to the store owner, everyone in the deli was able to leave on time, according to Mayor Eric Adams.
According to the American Red Cross, the collapse has displaced around 31 homes, totaling 100 individuals. Residents in need of a place to stay should go to P.S. 396’s assistance center. In addition, the MTA offered four warming buses.
