The Most Record-breaking Temperatures in Georgia

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s 2021 data, we have compiled a list of the hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in each state, along with some noteworthy precipitation records. Thankfully, Georgia’s extreme temperatures do not reach the highest recorded temperature of 134 degrees Fahrenheit in Death Valley or the lowest recorded temperature of -80 degrees Fahrenheit in Prospect Creek Camp, Alaska.
Georgia has experienced extreme temperature records over the years. The highest temperature ever recorded in the state was a scorching 112 degrees Fahrenheit. This occurred on August 20, 1983, in Greenville and also on July 24, 1952, in Louisville. On the other hand, Georgia has also seen bitterly cold temperatures, with the lowest recorded temperature being a bone-chilling -17 degrees Fahrenheit. This occurred on January 27, 1940, near Beatum. In terms of precipitation, the state has experienced significant rainfall. On July 6, 1994, a staggering 21.1 inches of rain fell in Americus within a 24-hour period. As for snowfall, Cedartown holds the record with 19.3 inches of snowfall within a 24-hour period on March 3, 1942. These extreme weather events serve as a reminder of the diverse and unpredictable climate in Georgia.
