Woman Dies In I81 Polkville Motorcycle Crash on Saturday Afternoon
On the afternoon of Saturday, August 26th, at approximately 3:20 pm, emergency dispatch received a call reporting a motorcycle accident on I81 North beyond Exit 10 (Polkville).
The Cortlandville Fire Department, TLC Ambulance, and New York State Police promptly responded to the scene of the accident. Fortunately, a crew from AMR Ambulance was already present at the site of the crash as they were traveling on I81 and happened to come across the scene.
The crash victim, a woman in her 60s, received prompt emergency care from AMR. Sadly, the injuries sustained in the accident proved fatal, and she passed away while being transported to a hospital in Syracuse. The authorities have not released her name yet.
According to the initial investigation conducted by Troopers, a group of four motorcycles was heading towards the northbound on I81. Unfortunately, one of the motorcycles veered off the road and crashed with a guardrail. The reason behind this incident is still unknown and requires further investigation.
According to State Police, the investigation into the accident is still ongoing. The closure of I81 lasted for around 2 ½ hours during the investigation. Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries.
Moreover, the Fire Police of Cortland City offered their aid in managing the traffic flow during the shutdown on the East Side of Cortland.
