A video has surfaced that is truly heartbreaking, as it captures the moment when a veteran crossing guard in New York City lost his life. The crossing guard was hit by a dump truck while he was helping pedestrians cross a busy street outside an elementary school in Queens. The incident has left the community in a state of shock and sadness.
Krystyna Naprawa, a cherished crossing guard, is captured on film adorned in a bright yellow raincoat as she safely guides students and other pedestrians across the busy intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Woodhaven Avenue in Woodhaven. The footage was taken at approximately 8 a.m. on October 20th.
As Naprawa walks, she suddenly feels a force from behind her. She stumbles and falls to the ground as she realizes that a dump truck has slowly pulled up and pushed her. This incident occurred as she was going about her business, and it caught her off guard. The details of the incident are still under investigation, and the authorities are working to determine the cause of the unfortunate event.
At the age of 63, Naprawa had been fulfilling the role of a crossing guard since 2010.
According to reports, she passed away on the spot, not far from PS 60, as mentioned in the article here.
Hector Yepes, who was behind the wheel and is 39 years old, stayed at the location of the incident. However, he was issued a citation for not giving the right of way to a pedestrian and for not taking due care.
As the body of Naprawa was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Manhattan, a touching scene unfolded. Dozens of NYPD members, who are responsible for hiring and overseeing school crossing guards, stood in a line to pay their respects.
