Amazon announced it is hiring approximately 5,100 people in the Houston area.
Are you looking for a job? Before the holiday season, Amazon is hiring in the Houston area, and it’s not just a few positions. Approximately 5,100 positions are open, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.
Amazon announced they’re hiring a quarter-million employees nationwide, and 28,000 of those will be in Texas. This includes the 5,100 jobs in Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, and Montgomery counties. There are full-time, part-time, and seasonal packing and shipping positions available. Transportation and fulfilment workers can earn an hourly wage of $20.50 or more, depending on their location.
The total number of jobs has increased by 67% compared to the previous year.
In a press release, John Felton, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, said, “The holiday season is always a special time at Amazon, and we’re excited to hire 250,000 more people this year to serve customers across the country better.” There is a position available for anyone, whether seeking a short-term way to make extra money or their first step toward a fulfilling and rewarding career at Amazon.
In addition to a 13% salary increase over the next three years, fulfilment and transportation workers hired now will be eligible for benefits such as pre-paid college tuition and health insurance.
This year, Amazon has opened over 50 fulfilment centres, delivery stations, and same-day delivery sites in the United States, increasing available positions. The e-commerce titan also stated in a blog post that it intends to invest $1.3 billion in pay increases for warehouse and transportation employees this year, increasing the average hourly wage for these positions from $19 to over $20.50.

Macy’s announced that it will add 28,000 full-time and part-time seasonal jobs across the country, a decrease from the 41,000 positions the company planned to add last year.
