At what point are landlords obligated to provide heating?
As the chilly season makes its presence felt, many are left wondering when they can finally turn up the heat. For those living in New York, the anticipation is palpable.
According to the law in New York City, building owners are required to provide heat when the outside temperature drops below 55 degrees. To ensure the comfort of residents, the indoor temperature must be maintained at a minimum of 68 degrees between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. During the nighttime, the indoor temperature should not fall below 62 degrees.
In New Jersey, landlords are required to maintain a minimum indoor temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. This regulation ensures that tenants are able to maintain a comfortable living environment during the day.
Regardless of the season, maintaining a minimum indoor temperature of 65 degrees is mandatory in Connecticut.
