Iowa man celebrates Christmas with $250,000 prize from scratch-off lottery win
Two lucky individuals from Iowa are overjoyed after discovering that their scratch-off tickets have made them winners of significant prizes.
Jaime Hakes from Lake Mills struck it big with a $250,000 win from the Iowa Lottery’s Payline scratch game. All it took was a $20 investment for him to hit the jackpot. Hakes purchased his winning ticket at the Northwood branch of Kum & Go.
On December 22nd, when Hakes arrived at the lottery’s Mason City regional office to claim his prize, officials pleasantly surprised him by revealing that he had won the third top prize.
A lucky woman from southern Iowa claimed her $20,000 top prize from the “$20,000 Crossword” scratch game just two days before Hakes arrived.
Valerie Musgrove, a 23-year-old resident of Bloomfield, recently joined the ranks of the lucky few who have won the top prize in a scratch game. Her winning ticket was purchased at the BP gas station located in Bloomfield.
“I had initially thought I only had $2,000,” Musgrove excitedly shared with the Iowa Lottery. “I was already thrilled about that amount, but then when I double-checked last night, I realized I actually had 10 words, which meant I won a staggering $20,000. I was completely taken aback by the unexpected windfall.”
In the $20,000 Crossword game presented by the Iowa Lottery, players must fill in the play area with the provided set of letters to complete words. Musgrove, a participant, was confident that she had successfully completed nine words and decided to confirm her prize by scanning the ticket using the Iowa Lottery mobile app.
“I’ve never been this fortunate in my entire life,” she shared with the Iowa Lottery. “Having that extra bit of security gives me a sense of relief, knowing it’s there if I ever need it.”
Musgrove, the lucky winner, made her way to the lottery headquarters in Clive to claim her well-deserved prize. In a conversation with officials, she revealed that her current plan is to save the winnings for the time being.
