Man arrested for deadly shooting at troubled Brooklyn NYCHA housing complex
Earlier this year, a man was fatally shot at a public housing complex in Brooklyn. However, the police have recently arrested a suspect who they believe is responsible for the crime. According to reports, the suspect was taken into custody and is now facing charges related to the shooting. The victim’s family and loved ones can hopefully find some closure knowing that justice is being served.
Police announced on Sunday that Thomas Nimmons has been arrested and charged with murder and weapon possession in relation to the death of Dawuand Darrien on August 12th. The arrest took place on Friday, and Nimmons is now facing serious charges. The tragic incident has left many in shock and grief, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
According to witness reports, Darrien, 29, engaged in a dispute with Nimmons, 26, and another individual outside the Sumner Houses on Vernon Ave. near Marcus Garvey Blvd. around 2:40 a.m. It was a heated argument that eventually escalated into a physical altercation.
The victim was immediately transported to Kings County Hospital by medical personnel, but unfortunately, despite their efforts, he could not be saved.
According to records, Nimmons has had six previous arrests dating as far back as 2017. He was released from prison in April after serving nearly four years for charges related to criminal possession of a controlled substance, assault, and attempted robbery.
After being arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Saturday, he was held in custody without bail.
In the previous month, two distinct shootings took place at the Sumner Houses resulting in the loss of one life and six individuals being injured.
According to the Daily News, a tragic incident occurred on September 30th when Kyle Forde, a 28-year-old father, was fatally shot in a courtyard at a nearby housing development after dropping off his two 7-year-old sons with their mother.
According to authorities, two of Forde’s companions were also injured in the hail of gunfire, sustaining wounds to their backs and stomachs.
An 18-year-old named Ryan Nieves was recently arrested by the police in connection to a triple shooting that took place in Brooklyn. According to reports, he has been charged with murder and attempted murder. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the community and has left many people shocked.
