Man arrested in NYC for attempting to drag his mother by the hair to an ATM while brandishing a knife
A man with a knife was apprehended in Midtown Manhattan on Sunday morning after attempting to forcibly drag his own mother by her hair to a nearby ATM, all while making death threats, according to sources and witnesses who spoke to The Post.
Police apprehended the unidentified deranged man at approximately 8:30 a.m. on West 43rd Street, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues, after a concerned dog walker witnessed the disturbing incident and dialed 911.
According to Canerday, she noticed that the woman was attempting to resist the attacker, but she intervened by asking if everything was alright. She admitted that she hadn’t initially realized that the assailant was armed with a knife.
During the process of apprehending the man, two police officers sustained injuries. One officer was slashed in the hand while disarming him of the knife, while the other officer suffered a knee injury.
The suspect, wearing a peculiar red and blue body suit similar to a jester’s outfit, was seen in photos being handcuffed and placed on a stretcher before being loaded into an ambulance at the scene.
A police officer is seen speaking with a woman who appears to be the victim.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect came out of a building while gripping his mother’s hair tightly and shouting at shocked onlookers to keep their distance.
He reportedly shouted, “Stay away from me! I’m going to harm her.”
According to the NYPD, charges are currently pending.
