Release of preliminary report on the fatal I-84 bus collision
The National Transportation Safety Board has released an initial report regarding the bus collision that occurred on I-84 in Orange County last month.
Near Wawayanda, the bus carrying Farmingdale School District students and adults to a band camp in Pennsylvania deviated from its intended route.
It exited the roadway in the opposite direction, traversed lanes and the shoulder, and ultimately encountered a barrier before coming to a halt at the base of a depression.
The driver and two adult passengers in the front row were ejected.
Patroness Beatrice Ferrari and band director Gina Pelletiere perished in the collision, whereas the driver suffered critical injuries.
Since then, all forty high school students who were transported to hospitals have been discharged.
Completing a thorough report on the probable cause could require a maximum of one year.
