Robert De Niro alleges his award presentation speech mocking Trump was ‘taken out’ without his knowledge
During his speech at the Gotham Awards, actor Robert De Niro expressed his surprise when he discovered that a portion of his speech, which mentioned former President Donald Trump, had been edited out without his consent. This revelation came to light as reports emerged about the incident.
“I have something important to express,” he stated. “The opening of my speech underwent editing, it was removed without my knowledge, and I would like to share it. The concept of history has evolved. The idea of truth has become distorted. Even facts are being substituted with alternative facts, influenced by conspiracy theories and negativity.”
During the discussion, De Niro raised concerns about Florida’s school history curriculum regarding slavery. He mentioned Vice President Harris’ statement that suggested the curriculum included lessons on how enslaved people “benefited from slavery.”
De Niro expressed his concern about the way young students in Florida are taught about slavery, stating that they are taught that slaves developed skills solely for their personal benefit. He also highlighted that the entertainment industry is not exempt from this issue, mentioning a quote from John Wayne, where he stated that he didn’t believe they were wrong in taking the country away from Native Americans, as they needed new land and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.

Robert De Niro’s production company, Tribeca Enterprises, has been found liable in a gender discrimination lawsuit and has been ordered to pay $1.2 million. The lawsuit, which was filed by a former employee, accused the company of fostering a hostile work environment and engaging in discriminatory practices. The jury ruled in favor of the plaintiff, finding that Tribeca Enterprises had indeed violated state and city laws regarding gender discrimination. As a result, the company has been ordered to compensate the plaintiff for lost wages, emotional distress, and punitive damages. This verdict serves as a reminder that workplace discrimination is not to be tolerated, and that all individuals should be treated with fairness and respect.
In a recent interview, De Niro spoke out about Trump’s time in office, highlighting the numerous falsehoods he believes the former president told during his tenure. According to De Niro, Trump’s lies amounted to more than 30,000 throughout his term. However, De Niro also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Apple TV+, the production company behind his latest film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” for their financial support.
De Niro concluded his speech by expressing his gratitude to Apple and acknowledging their support. However, he also shared his disappointment and frustration with their actions, stating that he did not feel like thanking them for what they had done. He emphasized his disbelief and questioned their audacity. Nevertheless, he shifted his focus to accepting the award for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” revolves around the actual events of the Osage Indian murders that took place in the 1920s, following the discovery of oil on tribal land.
In the role of William Hale, the 79-year-old actor portrays a cattle farmer who masterminded the murders that sparked a lengthy FBI investigation before his eventual conviction in 1929.

Leonardo DiCaprio expressed his desire to take on the role of a villain in the movie “Killers of the Flower Moon,” despite concerns from the studio.
In May, De Niro drew a comparison between the character and Trump.
“We have become much more aware of a sense of entitlement, particularly after the incident involving George Floyd, which shed light on the issue of systemic racism. It is disheartening to witness the banality of evil in our society. I won’t dignify the person responsible by mentioning their name, as they are simply ignorant. It is important to imagine a world where intelligence prevails, just like Hale who demonstrated his intelligence in various ways.”
During his speech at the Gotham awards, De Niro emphasized that Trump’s soul cannot be concealed.

“He may try to conceal his true nature with a web of lies, but he cannot hide the essence of his character. He relentlessly targets the vulnerable, wreaks havoc on the environment, and demonstrates blatant disrespect by employing derogatory terms like ‘Pocahontas’. In contrast, filmmakers are driven by a different motivation. As I observed, they diligently work to refine their craft, ensuring that every detail is meticulously edited.”
