Suspected suspect’s body recovered from Elizabeth River: VBPD

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation following the discovery of a body in the Elizabeth River on Sunday morning.

On Saturday night, Virginia Beach police officers observed an individual entering the water near Behl Court and Jonathan’s Cove Drive, in close proximity to the South Military Highway Bridge.

The officers did not witness the resurfacing of the person.

Police announced on Sunday morning that they had found a body in the water near the 400 block of Behl Court at around 10:30 a.m.

According to Public Information Officer Jude Brenya, there is evidence suggesting that the person observed entering the water is the same individual in question. Detectives are currently engaged in a thorough investigation to identify the person and inform their next of kin. The official cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to News 3, authorities did not immediately provide a description of the person. However, they did mention that the individual is believed to be the suspect in a larceny and indecent exposure case.

The police clarified that officers did not engage in a pursuit before the individual entered the water.
