Armed standoff in Cheektowaga claims man’s life
Police in Cheektowaga are investigating, and a man has died as a result of an armed confrontation on Dean Road, according to News 4.
Around 9 a.m., police were called to the site, which was described as a domestic incident. The circumstances also prompted the department’s SWAT squad and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office to respond.
According to authorities, a man approached a house, told a woman to leave, shot the door, and then locked himself inside.
According to Chief of Police Brian Coons, the male, who was supposedly in a relationship with the woman, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to police, the woman involved was brought to CPD headquarters for her own protection. The names of the guy and woman were not revealed right away.
Around 11:40 a.m., police asked residents to stay in their homes as they worked to handle the situation.
As approximately 3 p.m., police had lifted the shelter in place, and the route was reopened.
Later in the afternoon, many SWAT team members departed the location before returning with additional tools. They ultimately made their way inside the house.
Several cops left the residence and the one across the street around 2:40 p.m., and crime scene investigators arrived later.
Monica Lesniak, who lives across the street, claimed the woman fled her home to take refuge with them. Lesniak stated that the woman was noticeably shaken and agitated before officers transported her to department headquarters for safety.
“Thankfully, he said to her, ‘I don’t want to kill you, get out of house,’ and so she grabbed her purse, coat and came over here. She didn’t have her keys so she was worried about trying to get away in the car. But, great family. I mean, he’s great parents there. You just didn’t expect this.”
