Parole denied for Charles Sexton
On August 22, Charles Ray Sexton, Jr. was denied parole by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles.
The board denied Sexton’s request without any indication of a reset date. The board allows family members, friends, court officials and representatives of the victim’s family to provide testimony for or against an inmate’s petition. However, in Sexton’s case, no statements were given supporting his request.
At the Elmore Correctional Facility, 39-year-old Sexton is serving a five-year sentence ordered on February 9. This sentence stems from a conviction in Butler County on charges of destroying public property.
In 2019, Sexton was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison for two counts of third-degree burglary. However, in 2021, he was granted parole. Interestingly, Sexton had previously faced charges of second-degree escape.
Each of the convictions stemmed from criminal charges filed in Butler County.
On August 22, the board conducted 28 hearings about parole petitions, all of which were unfortunately denied. Alongside these, nine pardon hearings were held, with only one being granted while eight were rejected. Seven other pardon hearings were postponed to a later date.
