A 30-year-old man from Keaau was killed by an officer-involved shooting.
Saturday, a 30-year-old man was fatally shot by a police officer in the Orchidland Estates neighbourhood of Keaau.
Friday, police responded to a home on 26th Avenue in Hawaii Paradise Park in search of a suspect in a case involving terroristic threats between two brothers.
The suspect was located in the residence, but he fled from officers. The suspect fled into a densely forested area and opened fire on officers. The officers fired back, striking the suspect. Officers attempted to save the suspect’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries reported.
A Detective with 17 years of service, a second Detective with 11 years of service, and two Officers with five years and one year of service are involved. As is customary, they have each been placed on administrative leave to ensure they can return to work mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Chief Benjamin Moszkowicz praised his team’s performance, saying, “The suspect put our officers in a hazardous situation, and we’re just glad that the community is not at risk at this time.”
