Officials have reported that a young man from Los Angeles, aged 25, has been taken into custody for the charges of DUI and murder. The man reportedly drove on the wrong side of the 10 Freeway, leading to a head-on collision with another vehicle. Unfortunately, the other driver passed away due to the severity of the crash.
According to officials from the CHP, Brandon Bencomo was behind the wheel of his 2022 Kia Stinger on the freeway at approximately 4:38 a.m. on Thursday. He had a 5-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman with him as passengers.
While traveling in the wrong direction on the freeway east of Santa Fe Avenue, he collided head-on with a Honda Fit that was driving in the correct direction. The collision occurred when he was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes. A Los Angeles man aged 33 was driving the Honda alone and unfortunately lost his life in the accident. Three people in the Kia were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
According to a report by the CHP, during the crash, the 5-year-old girl present in the Kia was not secured by any safety equipment like a seat belt or child seat. The family notification is pending before the name of the Honda driver who passed away can be disclosed.
The relationship between the occupants of the Kia remains unclear as the CHP report did not provide any information on their familial ties.
