Utica woman killed in a crash in Montgomery County
Florida, New York: A woman from Utica was killed early Sunday morning near Amsterdam on the New York State Thruway.
According to the New York State Police, the accident occurred in the Town of Florida’s eastbound lanes just before 1:30 this morning. According to the New York State Police, Steven Humphrey, 55, of Utica rear-ended a tractor-trailer driven by Ronnie Peguero, 32, of Middletown.
The collision caused Humphrey’s Toyota Prius to catch fire. The truck and Prius both stopped in an attempt to remove the Humphrey’s passenger. The state police report that Utica resident Judith Humphrey, 81, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was taken to the Albany Medical Centre in preparation for an autopsy. Steven Humphrey was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Centre in Amsterdam for injuries that were not life-threatening. Peguero was unharmed. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
