Two victims, one fatal, were assaulted by at-large suspect at Whittier homes: LASD

On Wednesday, officials reached out to the public for assistance in locating a man who is a suspect in two distinct attacks on elderly individuals in the Whittier region. One of the assaults resulted in a deadly stabbing.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, on Tuesday afternoon, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 15300 block of Goodhue Street in East Whittier.

According to the victim’s neighbour, Lori Kevorkian, he was a veteran with a great sense of humour and genuinely kind and friendly. She spoke highly of him, stating he was just an all-around good person.

During a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff Robert Luna presented security footage that revealed the perpetrator had gained access to the victim’s home through an unlocked door on Monday afternoon. According to Luna, the suspect quickly exited the residence a few minutes later and fled the scene in the victim’s car, described as a silver Toyota RAV4 with license number VPH289. However, the vehicle has since been recovered in Chino.

According to Luna’s statement, the murder occurred on August 28 at around 2:45 p.m., as per the surveillance footage.

According to Luna, the security photos revealed that the victim’s car was spotted driving in Ontario at approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday. Later on, the same images depicted the vehicle being parked in Chino around three hours later.

According to the sheriff, the suspect has most likely been using the exact vehicle for a minimum of 24 hours or possibly longer. The authorities are urging anyone who may have seen this vehicle in the region spanning from Whittier to Chino or Ontario to contact the homicide detectives right away. Time is of the essence in this case, and any information could be critical to the investigation.

According to Luna, investigators suspect the perpetrator also attacked another older man shortly before the homicide. The suspect entered through an unlocked door at a residence on Fernview Street in Whittier, just a few blocks from where the homicide occurred. The victim’s son intervened during the first attack, causing the suspect to flee.

According to Luna, there is a potential threat to public safety. The reason behind this is that the individual in question has been involved in two violent assaults that targeted elderly individuals. Furthermore, it seems like the perpetrator entered both residences through open doors.

According to Luna, the individual in question is believed to be a male with facial hair, potentially in his thirties. He is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds, with short hair. Luna added that the man was seen wearing dark pants and a tan shirt, and there is a possibility that he is homeless.

ABC7 spoke to neighbours who expressed shock and horror at the senseless act of violence. They were deeply disturbed by what had transpired in their community.

According to a resident living in the area for 45 years, nothing of this sort has ever occurred.

According to some, incidents like this are becoming increasingly common.

Manuel Ochoa, a resident, expressed his fear regarding the current situation. He admitted that the frequency of such incidents is increasing, which is a cause of concern. According to him, the present scenario is terrible and needs to be addressed immediately.
