Rock Center Tree Lighting 2023: Here’s Everything to know
The highly anticipated lighting ceremony of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, a beloved holiday attraction in New York City, is scheduled for this Wednesday night, November 29.
The tree chosen for this year’s celebration is a magnificent 80-foot-tall Norway spruce from Vestal, New York in the beautiful Binghamton area.
The tree sparkles with approximately 5 miles of vibrant LED lights. At its pinnacle, a stunning star crafted by Daniel Libeskind in 2018 adds the perfect finishing touch.
The stunning Swarovski star, weighing a hefty 900 pounds, boasts an impressive three-dimensional design. Adorned with a magnificent array of 70 spikes, this star is embellished with an astounding 3 million dazzling crystals.
You can catch a glimpse of the tree, estimated to be around 80-85 years old, at the Rock located between West 49th and 50th Streets, and Fifth and Sixth Avenues.
The official lighting takes place just a few minutes before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday (11/29).

The tree will glow every day from 5:00 a.m. until midnight until January 13th.
During Christmas Day, the tree stays illuminated for a full 24 hours. On New Year’s Eve, it is lit from the early hours of 5:00 a.m. all the way until 9:00 p.m.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has been an integral part of the New York holiday tradition for the past 90 years. In December 1931, the employees at the Rock came together and collectively purchased a tree.

In December 1933, the first tree lighting ceremony took place, marking the beginning of an annual tradition that would continue for years to come.
