Family: A pregnant Independence Center gunshot victim is currently on life support
According to sources close to the victim, Karla Brown, 19, who was shot in the Independence Center mall incident on Nov. 11, is currently on life support and pregnant. Her family and friend are deeply concerned about her condition and are hoping for her recovery.
According to Jack Taylor, a spokesperson with the Independence Police Department, a shootout broke out between two groups of individuals around 2:20 p.m. on Friday afternoon, resulting in injuries to four people. One person is in critical condition while the others sustained injuries that range from serious to non-life-threatening.
According to Tina Ellison, a close friend of Brown’s family who spoke with KSHB 41 News, Brown is currently pregnant with a baby boy. Despite the tragic circumstances, Brown’s family has made the selfless decision to donate her organs.
According to a post by Ellison, additional details about Brown can be found on a GoFundMe page that has been set up. The page has been established to raise funds to support the family during this difficult time. It has also been confirmed that Brown’s organs will be donated, allowing her to continue to live on through others.
According to Taylor, three individuals who could potentially be connected to the incident were detained by the police on Friday as they were trying to leave the area. It is still unclear as to what caused the violent exchange or how the individuals involved were related to one another.
