Mother of 18-year-old victim on Indy’s northeast side shares details about the incident
An 18-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a fatal shooting on the northeast side of Indianapolis. The devastated family is now left with unanswered questions as they grapple with this heartbreaking incident.
According to neighbors, gunshots were heard, but they are unaware of the circumstances that led to the shooting. Tragically, the victim lost her life just a few blocks away from her mother’s residence.
Crystal Conner expressed her deep emotional pain, stating, “I’m hurt. My heart aches. I can’t believe it. I’m sitting in her room, hoping she’ll come back, but that’s not going to happen.”
Crystal Conner and her daughter, Ariel Calhoun, resided in the very same neighborhood where the tragic killing occurred.
Crystal was actually at home when she heard the gunshots and noticed the flashing police lights. It was only then that she realized that her daughter had tragically lost her life to the gunfire.
“I can’t wrap my head around it,” Conner exclaimed. “I never imagined that I would be preparing to cremate my own daughter.”
Crystal is convinced that her daughter was attempting to make her way back home when she tragically lost her life.
Conner recounted the heart-wrenching story of her baby being pursued and desperately running towards home, only to be tragically shot before reaching safety.
Ariel’s family commemorated their loss by releasing balloons on Monday, while also appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the individual behind the shooting.
Conner expressed his disbelief and sadness over the tragic shooting of Ariel, stating, “Ariel didn’t deserve to be shot down. It’s shocking because everyone loved her.”
Ariel’s death is one of the 35 homicides that have occurred in Indianapolis this year, involving individuals who are 18 years old or younger. Out of those cases, 23 of the victims were juveniles.
Ariel’s mother is becoming increasingly frustrated with the rising number of young lives being lost.
Conner expressed his disbelief and frustration, stating, “It’s astonishing how people seem to lack remorse, respect, and care for others. I simply cannot comprehend it.”
No one has been arrested in connection with the case.
