Woman arrested in Bourbon Street shooting

In the shooting that occurred on Bourbon Street on Saturday, resulting in the critical condition of one man and the injury of two others, a woman has been apprehended.

Shawnnika Smith, 30, has been charged, among other offences, with attempted second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated second-degree battery, and two warrants, according to detectives with the New Orleans Police Department.

Saturday at approximately 6:00 a.m., Smith was reportedly at the intersection of Bourbon and Toulouse Streets when she allegedly drew a firearm and fatally shot a man in the chest multiple times. EMS transported him to the hospital while he was in critical condition.

Two additional individuals in close proximity were injured in the lower extremities due to the gunfire. Their current condition is unknown.

According to the police, Smith was in possession of a 9mm handgun at the time of her arrest.
