NYC Subway Tragedy: Teen Passes Away from Falling onto the Tracks
Authorities have reported that a young woman, aged just 18, has tragically lost her life after falling onto train tracks in New York City.
According to a spokesperson from the New York City Police Department, the incident happened at around 6:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street station.
Jessica Marleny Ajtzac Guarcas was discovered on the tracks in an unconscious and unresponsive state and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Richard Davey, the President of the New York City Transit Authority, the young woman fell onto the tracks due to a medical episode. He characterized the incident as a “freak accident.”
Davey reported that the MTA cameras at the station captured footage of the incident, but upon review, the video did not show the woman preparing for the fall. It should be noted that PEOPLE has not viewed the footage independently.
As per Davey, the woman’s fall coincided with the train’s arrival at the station. Despite the operator’s efforts to hit the brakes, the train couldn’t stop in time.
According to Davey, the video appears to depict a rare and unexpected event.

According to the Metropolitan Transit Authority, there were significant delays in both directions for the E, F, and R lines of the subway service on Tuesday morning.
According to a spokesperson from the NYPD, the death of Ajtzac Guarcas is currently under investigation by the medical examiner.
According to the MTA president, the NYPD has access to the incident’s footage.
According to CBS affiliate WCBS, witnesses who were present during the incident recounted the terrifying scene.
According to the outlet, a rider shared their shock and concern after witnessing the aftermath of an accident. “I always hear about accidents like that. This is the first time I’ve actually seen a body, and it’s quite unsettling,” the rider stated.
According to Davey, the incident that occurred in Queens on Tuesday is not only a tragedy for the city, but it is also particularly devastating for the young woman’s family. He expresses his deepest condolences and sympathies, stating that his heart and prayers are with them during this difficult time of mourning.
