A video was submitted by an ABC13 viewer, which depicts a raging fire that consumed the Denny’s restaurant located on Seawall Boulevard at 14th Street in Galveston, while the area experienced strong winds.

The Galveston Fire Department received assistance from Hitchcock and Santa Fe firefighters in their efforts to extinguish the raging fire.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Richie Pearson, the firefighters faced setbacks due to poor water pressure and unfavorable wind conditions.

The commander present at the site made a quick decision to evacuate all the fire crews from the building as the flames continued to spread rapidly. The fear of an imminent roof collapse made the situation even more critical, and the commander acted swiftly to ensure the safety of his team.

As per Pearson’s statement, the fire was brought under control around 3:30 p.m. despite the challenges faced by the crew.

At 4:30 p.m., the firefighters were still diligently working to extinguish any remaining hotspots.

According to Pearson, the fierce wind coming from the north caused the flames to spread rapidly, engulfing the entire restaurant. He stated that Denny’s suffered irreparable damages and was completely destroyed.

The reason behind the fire is yet to be revealed by the investigators. Commuters should anticipate road closures to persist until approximately 7 p.m.
