Police say 14-year-old dead, 4 teens injured after truck smashes tree in central Alabama
Authorities announced Thursday night that a 14-year-old passenger was murdered and four other minors were injured in a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in central Alabama.
The fatal victim, a 14-year-old Deatsville resident, was a passenger in a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that left Lightwood Road near Hickory Road around 3:20 p.m. Thursday near Wetumpka when it collided with a tree, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sgt. Jeremy Burkett.
At the scene, the teen was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Silverado, named only as a 16-year-old from Deatsville, was hurt, as were three other adolescent passengers — a 14-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 17-year-old, according to Burkett.
The driver and three other teenagers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As authorities proceeded to examine the situation, more information was unavailable.
