Proposed legislation in Kansas might prohibit schools from opening before Labor Day

When the new legislative session begins in January, one bill that the Kansas House may consider is whether school should start before Labor Day.

House Bill 2475 would make it illegal for Kansas school districts to begin classes before the holiday. Summer school, extended school year programs, and other activities would not be prohibited under the Act.

Representatives Bill Rhiley and Sandy Pickert of Wichita, as well as Randy Garber of Sabetha, are co-sponsors of the bill.
