Santa Ana police arrest hit-and-run driver who hit 12-year-old girl walking to school
The motorist who struck and injured a 12-year-old girl while walking to school in Santa Ana has been apprehended. On Wednesday morning, the girl was banged near Fitz Intermediate School at McFadden Avenue and Newhope Street.
The driver fled the scene, but authorities verified on Thursday that a woman aged 18 was arrested that evening. The Santa Ana Police Department reported that officers served a search warrant at a residence on West Kent Avenue, where they discovered the implicated blue four-door sedan. Authorities say a hit-and-run motorist struck a 12-year-old girl walking to school in Santa Ana, leaving her with critical injuries.
Madeline Ortiz was identified as the driver. She was processed into the Santa Ana Jail for hit-and-run with felony charges. The infant was transported to the hospital in critical condition following the collision. She is currently listed as being in stable condition.
