Search for a missing hiker comes to an end after a Michigan nurse was discovered dead near the Calaveras County trail
For days, hundreds of California rescuers hoped to discover a Michigan lady who had gone missing while hiking alone through the middle Sierra Nevada Mountains. Unfortunately, she was discovered dead, according to officials.
Unmanned drones flew through the air, offering aerial support, while search teams with canines and all-terrain vehicles explored the vast wilderness for any sign of Ann Herford, 66. But, a week after officials declared they were scaling back their search efforts – and nearly two weeks after Herford originally went missing – rescuers discovered her body.
Herford was discovered dead on a steep hillside behind high tree canopy and dense foliage around 9 a.m. local time on Thursday, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, which led the multi-agency rescue mission.
The region is north of where Herford parked her car on Nov. 12 to begin a solo trip of the Arnold Rim Trail, which is located about 100 miles southeast of Sacramento.
