The Nixon White House was forced to nail the Thanksgiving turkey by its feet
Thanksgiving dinner in Richard Nixon’s White House did not go according to plan.
According to The Washington Post, it recalls:
During the Nixon administration, Thanksgiving evokes memories of a lively turkey that was gifted to the late president at the White House.
According to a lesser-known legend, the turkey was in such a state of panic that its legs had to be fastened to the table.
After consulting with some Nixon administration veterans, we received confirmation on the effort to restrain the White House Thanksgiving turkey. According to one of the veterans, who would have had knowledge on the matter, they shared via email that, “it is my understanding that at least one year, they nailed its feet to the table.” It appears that the bird doesn’t have nerve endings in certain parts of its feet.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the turkey was granted clemency, just like the President.
