Video footage reveals deli workers fighting robbers during theft
The two bodega workers narrowly escaped a potentially fatal robbery that could have gone awry. However, luck was on their side as the situation took an unexpected turn in their favor.
According to authorities, on September 5th at approximately 3:30 a.m., a group of five men entered the Green Apple Deli located on East Tremont Avenue.
As the worker spoke through a translator, he revealed that his only concern in that moment was self-protection. He recalled actively trying to release the grip of the hand that was choking him and devising a plan to defend himself.
He fought back and defended himself with all his might. Despite being attacked, he managed to wiggle free and put up a good fight against his assailant.
As the situation escalated, the suspect attempted to flee the scene together with his accomplices, leaving behind one of their members.
The individual is then witnessed being apprehended by the store clerks, who hold him in place until law enforcement arrives.
In an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News, the deli owner praised the hard work and dedication of the employees.
He explained that they would definitely take measures to protect themselves, particularly if someone intrudes into their space.
According to the authorities, the individual who applied the chokehold has been taken into custody. In addition, another suspect has voluntarily surrendered themselves to the police.
There is currently a reward of $3,000 available for anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of the suspects who are still at large.
