NYPD discovers 25-year-old man subway surfing in Manhattan carrying a 9-inch knife
Authorities discovered a nine-inch knife in the possession of a 25-year-old man who was caught subway surfing in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, specifically in Columbus Circle.
According to authorities, the individual was found subway surfing on a southbound D train. Fortunately, law enforcement could apprehend the man at the Columbus Circle station.
During the man’s arrest, law enforcement discovered a knife. The man claimed he had the knife “for his protection,” as per authorities. It’s worth noting that the man did not use the knife to intimidate or harm anyone, according to the police.
The individual in question was taken into custody on allegations of reckless behaviour that put others in danger, unlawfully possessing a weapon and committing a crime motivated by hate.
The reason for the hate crime charge remains unknown at this point. Nonetheless, authorities have stated that it is at the Manhattan District Attorney’s discretion to decide whether to pursue the charges.
