Governor Abbott Arranges Transportation for 200 Migrants to a Sanctuary City in the Northeast
The flight-carrying migrants, originally bound for New York City, had to be redirected to Philadelphia due to inclement weather conditions. It seems that Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has included air travel as an additional method for transporting migrants to sanctuary cities.
Last week, migrants were flown from Texas to the city of Chicago. In response, the City Council has recently enacted a law mandating that migrant buses possess the necessary paperwork for Chicago and transport migrants to their designated destinations.
Governor Abbott opted for a different approach by arranging for migrants to be transported via chartered airplane instead of dealing with paperwork.
Governor Abbott’s spokesperson, Andrew Mahaleris, stated, according to the Texas Tribune:
“Because [Chicago] Mayor [Brandon] Johnson is failing to live up to his city’s ‘Welcoming City’ ordinance by targeting migrant buses from Texas, we are expanding our operation to include flights to Chicago, like the Biden Administration has been doing across the country.”
“Until President Biden steps up and does his job to secure the border, Texas will continue taking historic action to help our local partners respond to this Biden-made crisis.”
Governor Abbott is expanding flight restrictions beyond Chicago and is now applying them to other cities as well. According to ABC 7, a flight destined for New York City on Tuesday was diverted to Philadelphia, carrying more than 200 migrants.
According to ABC 7, a spokesperson for New York City Mayor Eric Adams mentioned that
“Last night – in another inhumane act of treating human beings like political pawns – Texas attempted to send an unannounced and uncoordinated plane with migrants to New York City that was only diverted to Philadelphia due to extreme weather, but whose passengers were then transported here via bus.”
“Last week, 14 rogue buses from the State of Texas arrived in a single night, the highest number recorded by the Arrival Center.”
Governor Abbott is taking decisive action to address the issue of migrants crossing the southern border by redirecting them to sanctuary cities in Texas.
