Taco Bell becomes a victim of ambulance theft
On Wednesday, an arrest was made by the Greenville Police Department regarding the theft of an ambulance parked at the Greenville Taco Bell.
According to Police Chief Justin Lovvorn, the individual suspected of the theft is not from Butler County and was likely just passing through the area at the time. Although he stated there was no reason for concern, Lovvorn still advised residents to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings. He also emphasized that this appears to be an isolated incident.
According to Lovvorn, although Greenville doesn’t experience many significant criminal activities, it’s still unsafe to assume it won’t happen. He pointed out that transients may visit the area. While they typically don’t cause any issues, predicting their behaviour is difficult, especially if they’re coming from out of town and have nowhere to go. As Lovvorn emphasized, it’s impossible to know what people can do.
Lovvorn stated that the ambulance came from a service outside of the town. However, the name of the service cannot be disclosed now.
According to eyewitnesses, the perpetrator seemed to be under the influence of alcohol when he entered the unoccupied ambulance and reversed it into the establishment before departing from the parking area and driving towards the heart of Greenville.
Upon reaching North College Street, the driver of the ambulance, who was the suspect, was intercepted by Greenville police officers near Stabler Clinic. The officers were successful in stopping the ambulance and apprehending the suspect.
Although the identity of the suspect is still unknown, authorities have charged him with first-degree theft, which is a felony. He has been taken into custody and is currently held at the Butler County Jail. In addition to the charges for this crime, he also has warrants for probation violations in Florida.
