72-Year-Old Man Targeted in LGBTQ Hate Crime; 3 Teenagers Arrested

In New York City, on Monday, three teenagers were taken into custody for committing an LGBTQ hate crime against a 72-year-old man.
Three teenagers, aged 16, 14, and 13, have been charged with gang assault, hate crime assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the New York Police Department, a group of four men attacked a 72-year-old man on September 15, using anti-LGBTQ slurs during the assault. The attackers punched and kicked the man’s body and head, before fleeing the scene on foot. He was later taken to a nearby hospital where medical professionals determined that he had a broken jaw and lacerations on his face and hands. The Hate Crime Task Force of NYPD has launched an investigation into the incident.
As per the latest statistics released by the FBI for the year 2020, hate crimes related to sexual orientation accounted for over 20% of the reported cases, while approximately 3% were based on gender identity.
