Crackdown in California results in the arrest of arrest 27 suspected gang members.
Law enforcement officials from various parts of California recently collaborated to clamp down on a notorious criminal street gang in Los Angeles. The gang has been known for its violent activities and has been a major concern for authorities.
The focus of Operation Safe Harbor was to apprehend a notorious gang whose identity had not been disclosed. This gang was allegedly responsible for running a drug and firearm distribution network across the entire state, and was also connected to several violent criminal activities.
In early June, an extensive investigation was launched, culminating in a series of search warrants being executed on September 28th at various locations throughout Los Angeles County. As a result of this operation, ten individuals were taken into custody on serious felony charges. Additionally, law enforcement officials confiscated 14 firearms, including two ghost guns and a short-barreled rifle, as well as $4,000 in cash.
As a result of that operation, law enforcement officials uncovered more connections to the criminal enterprise, leading to additional arrests in both Kern and Tulare counties.
The law-enforcement operation concluded with 27 individuals being arrested, 30 weapons being confiscated, and a significant amount of illegal drugs recovered, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin.
The individuals who were apprehended have been forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s’ Office, where they will await potential felony charges for drug possession and transportation and conspiracy to commit a crime.
According to Rob Bonta, the Attorney General of California, the recent arrests clearly indicate the state’s efforts to send a solid message to organized crime groups. He added that the statewide partners are making significant progress in their mission to eliminate dangerous drugs and weapons from the streets of California.
In this case, the dedication and hard work put in by our DOJ agents and law enforcement partners is truly commendable. It is their relentless efforts that have made California a safer place. The families of Los Angeles can feel the impact of their investigation as they can now live and sleep with much greater peace of mind. I thank them for bringing about such a positive change in the state.
The latest operation conducted by the California DOJ targeted street gangs, but the agency did not disclose the specific team involved. According to Donald Alway, the Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, the arrests were made as part of an ongoing investigation into the violent crime, drug trafficking, and illegal gun activities of Mexican Mafia and cartel-affiliated street gangs that have been causing havoc in the Harbor area.
According to Bonta, his Department of Justice (DOJ) remains focused on collaborating with local, state, and federal allies to combat various criminal activity. These include human trafficking, gun violence, retail theft, street gangs, and the ongoing fentanyl epidemic.
