Beaten 4-year-old son to death in LA man gets 15–life sentence.
Monday, a Los Angeles man who pleaded no contest to second-degree murder for fatally beating his 4-year-old son was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison
Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Hatami said outside court after the sentencing that 29-year-old Hirwin Calderon-Ordonez “admitted to the crime very early” and “showed remorse”.
Since his June 6, 2019, LAPD Juvenile Division arrest, Calderon-Ordonez has been in prison.
The medical examiner’s office and the Los Angeles Police Department reported that Justin Sontay-Oxlaj, Calderon-Ordonez’ son, was pronounced dead at the hospital that day after being rushed from his family’s home in the 4600 block of Honduras Street in southeast Los Angeles.
The boy died from blunt force trauma, according to an autopsy. The prosecutor described the child’s injuries as “massive blunt force trauma.”
Media reported the boy’s father called 911. The prosecutor said the child’s mother, who didn’t attend the sentencing, wasn’t home. Neighbours reported hearing fighting and seeing abuse between the parents.
Sept. 12 Calderon-Ordonez pleaded no contest.
His plea dropped a second charge of child abuse causing death.
“I think we got a fair result,” Hatami said. He said the mother had one son.
