The subject of haunted history is intriguing and captivating. Many people are fascinated by the stories of spirits and ghosts that have been passed down through the ages. Whether it’s the tale of a haunted house or the legend of a ghostly apparition, these stories capture our imaginations and keep us on the edge of our seats. Althoughle may dismiss these stories as mere superstition, some believe that thereruth to be found in these tales of the supernatural.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Galveston boasts of having the “most haunted Walmart in America”. However, it is unclear whether this is an official title or not. Nevertheless, it is widely known that the store, established in 1994, is notorious for being one of the eeriest and most haunted places in Galveston.
According to Ghost City Tours, the Walmart Seawall location in Galveston is believed to be haunted by the spirits of children. Visitors and employees have reported hearing the sounds of children cryin, laughing, and even a young girl calling out for her mother. It’s a haunting reminder of the building’s past and the potential presence of paranormal activity.
The Galveston Walmart is said to be haunted, but why? The Walmart was built on the land previously home to the St. Mary Orphan Asylum. Tragically, on September 8, 1900, a hurricane hit Galveston, causing flooding that resulted in the deaths of at least 90 children and ten nuns at the asylum. According to the Houston Chronicle, the nuns attempted to save the children’s lives by tying a clothesline or rope to them and themselves. It is reported that only three boys managed to survive the ordeal.
According to reports, spooky incidents in the store have mostly been witnessed in the toy section of the building. Visitors, customers, and staff have all claimed to hear the sounds of children, adding to the eerie atmosphere. Interestingly, there was also an instance when Walmart granted entry to FEMA workers inside the store, which some believe might have triggered paranormal activity in the area.
According to a famous tale, Walmart opened its doors to FEMA workers to acquire supplies in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike in 2008. As per Maca, who dedicated a section in her book “Ghosts of Galveston” to the haunted Walmart, the workers reportedly heard the sound of children laughing and coughing upon entering the devastated store.
According to her, there was a belief that a group of children had managed to sneak into the building. As a result, a thorough search was conducted.Though no children were found, their footprints were discovered in the muck on the floor. It’s worth noting thatno another entrance wase available at the time.
With Halloween just around the corner, it’s safe to say that the Seawall Walmart will be bustling with visitors.
