Police Report: Five People Killed in Stabbing Incident at New York Residence
Five people were tragically killed in a stabbing incident that took place in a home in Queens, New York on Sunday.
NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey held a press conference at Jamaica Hospital on Sunday, where he mentioned that officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:10 a.m. The call reported an ongoing assault, with a young female stating that her cousin was attacking her family members.
According to Maddrey, two experienced officers, one with 28 years of service and the other with 16 years of service, arrived at the scene and engaged with Courtney Gordon, a 38-year-old individual.
According to Maddrey, the officer with 28 years of experience was able to use his firearm and shoot to stop the assault. Both the officers and Gordon were taken to a local hospital, but unfortunately, Gordon was pronounced dead upon arrival.
According to Maddrey, they were unable to enter the home due to a fire that had started in the living room and foyer area. Fortunately, the New York Fire Department arrived promptly and extinguished the fire. Additionally, another individual from the residence was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Upon gaining access to the premises, the New York Fire Department discovered three more victims, all of whom had unfortunately lost their lives.
According to Maddrey, the police chief, all four family members who died suffered stab wounds. He stressed that the investigation is still ongoing and mentioned that the knife used to harm the officers was the only weapon found at the scene.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny disclosed that Gordon was visiting his family at the residence and had previously been arrested for a domestic violence incident in the Bronx. Although the motive behind Gordon’s actions remains unknown, Kenny stated that investigators are currently interviewing the 911 caller at the police station in hopes of gaining insight into the incident.
The authorities have not released the names of the victims, but according to Kenny, the hospitalized person is a 61-year-old woman. The three individuals who tragically lost their lives inside the house were a 44-year-old woman, a 12-year-old boy, and a man in his 30s.
According to Kenny, the officers are doing well after the incident and he praised them for their exceptional performance.
