Southeast DC Locals Taken Into Custody For Car Theft And Violent Offenses

Ucreview – On October 20, 2023, the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District arrested two men for their involvement in violent crimes in DC. The police were alerted to a kidnapping report on the 3000 block of 30th Street, Southeast, where they discovered a male victim who had been robbed at knifepoint, physically assaulted, and held captive. The perpetrator coerced the victim into transferring funds electronically and subsequently fled the scene in the victim’s car.

Two suspects were apprehended on the 600 block of Irving Street, Northwest on October 23, 2023, after Maryland law enforcement pursued the stolen car into DC. Upon further investigation, it was found that one of the suspects was linked to a previous violent crime.

Authorities have arrested and charged Mecca Lee-Bey, a 20-year-old resident of Southeast, DC, with various crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, simple assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and theft.

Police arrested 26-year-old Tumarcus Hawkins from Southeast, DC, as the second suspect. Hawkins faced numerous charges, including fleeing from law enforcement, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

The Metropolitan Police Department, in collaboration with Maryland law enforcement, successfully made the arrests. This serves as a testament to their tireless efforts to maintain safety and security in the DC region.
