14-year-old Student Killed in Shooting in Norfolk; Local Adult Arrested for Involuntary Manslaughter
A tragic incident occurred over the weekend in Norfolk, where a 14-year-old boy was fatally shot. Amir Burnette, an eighth-grader, was identified by his family. 12:36 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on Wyngate Drive, where they discovered Amir.
Local authorities have charged 27-year-old Albert J. Sutton with involuntary manslaughter and reckless gun handling with the incident. However, details regarding the events preceding the shooting remain obscure.
Amir, remembered for his athletic participation at Norview Middle School, leaves behind a suffering community. It is currently unknown whether Sutton’s action was deliberate. Now, Sutton is being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail, pending further investigation.
