Daycare employees arrested for using “extreme force” and “cruel treatment” on kids.
According to the New York State Police, two individuals who previously worked at a daycare center in Newfane have been charged with engaging in “abusive treatment” towards children. This alarming news was announced on Wednesday and serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring that all children are treated with care and respect in any childcare setting.
At the same time, numerous violations were discovered by the Office of Children and Family Services in the organisation’s facilities in Western New York.
Two individuals employed at Sweet Angels Daycare on 1st Street in Newfane were arrested on Monday. Victoria Stanton, aged 22 and from Lockport, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. At the same time, 66-year-old Karon Anterline of Newfane was charged with one count of the same offence.
According to police, the two employees were accused of using excessive force while dealing with children in February.
As per the statement of the organization, the purported incident took place almost a year ago, and both employees have since left the company.
Sweet Angels has stated that they are committing to serving the children in their daycare program very seriously. They have also mentioned cooperating fully with the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office concerning this matter. This statement was provided to News 4.
Based on state documents, Sweet Angels currently operates four facilities in different locations, namely the Newfane facility, two in Lockport, and one in Tonawanda. Interestingly, their website includes a fifth facility located in North Tonawanda.
Based on official documentation, state inspectors confirmed various complaints regarding violations at numerous Sweet Angels facilities.
On February 10th, state officials issued a citation to the Newfane facility for utilizing disciplinary methods, interactions, and toilet training techniques that could frighten, humiliate, or demean children – strictly prohibited actions. While the compliance status has been listed as corrected, the investigation is still ongoing.
At other facilities, violations have been reported such as inadequate number of teachers, failure to change soiled diapers, and various safety citations. These violations have also been listed as corrected, similar to the Newfane violations.
Sweet Angels has acknowledged the severity of the charges brought against them, and while they are concerning, they will not waver in their dedication to serving the children, families, and caregivers that rely on them. This commitment remains steadfast and unwavering.
