Hate crime charged against bigot who assaulted Jewish woman on NYC subway
The NYPD announced the arrest of a suspected bigot who allegedly punched a Jewish woman in the face at a subway station in Manhattan. The individual was charged with a hate crime on Tuesday.
According to the police, Christopher D’Aguiar, who is 28 years old, reportedly assaulted a 29-year-old woman inside the 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue station on October 14th. He allegedly told her that he hit her because of her Jewish identity.
According to authorities, the victim sustained only minor injuries. Police have charged D’Aguiar with hate crime assault, aggravated harassment, assault, and harassment.
Amid a surge in hate crimes, many violent, across New York City, with the Jewish community being the target of almost 60% of the incidents, a hate-fueled attack took place. This attack coincides with the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which began after the terrorist group’s sudden attack on the Jewish nation.
During a press conference on Tuesday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny revealed that there have been 51 reported hate crimes in the city since October 9th. Out of the total reported incidents, 30 were targeted towards Jewish victims.
According to him, there were only six incidents of anti-Jewish activities reported by the NYPD during the same period in 2022.
According to Kenny, the current events in the city do not seem to be a result of the pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian protests happening lately.
According to him, several attacks have taken place on the subway or buses where people coincidentally cross paths. These attacks don’t seem to have any pre-planning involved. On the other hand, protests are organized events and so far, no hate crime has been associated with any of them.
