Charges of DUI and manslaughter filed in Mojave car crash case
A Tehachapi man lost his life in a tragic accident last month, and prosecutors have taken legal action by filing charges related to DUI and manslaughter. The incident took place in Bakersfield, California.
According to sheriff’s officials and court records, Sean Pierre Pantoja, who is 31 years old, has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, two counts of DUI causing injury, and two counts of child cruelty. This is in relation to the crash that occurred on September 22 on Randsburg Cutoff Road, which is a mile west of Highway 14. Pantoja is set to appear for arraignment on October 16th.
According to officials, the individual operating the second vehicle was Garrett William Houston, 39. Tragically, he was declared deceased at the scene.
According to a warrant filed in Superior Court, Pantoja acknowledged consuming three Long Island iced teas prior to getting behind the wheel. An investigator noted that he displayed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, red and watery eyes, as well as a distinct odor of alcohol.
