Driver accused of colliding with a police cruiser during a Greenwood County chase

On Monday, a man was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies in Greenwood County, South Carolina after reportedly eluding them and colliding with a patrol car.

The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jahmeir Hamilton, a 21-year-old, was driving a vehicle that was signaled to stop by deputies on Monday afternoon. Hamilton had outstanding warrants for possession of a stolen pistol, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and marijuana.

As per the statement released by the Sheriff’s office, Hamilton refused to stop his vehicle when signaled by the police and continued driving until he collided with a patrol car at the junction of McKenzie Road and Highway 178 South. After the accident, Hamilton fled the scene on foot and reportedly disappeared into the nearby woods.

After the sheriff’s office closed off the surrounding area, they used drones and K9 units to locate Hamilton and successfully apprehend him. As a result, he is now facing a range of additional charges, including possession with intent to distribute marijuana, failure to stop for blue lights, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
