A man from Chicago has been taken into custody almost a year after he allegedly committed a carjacking. The victim was held at gunpoint while stuck in traffic on a local expressway.
At 10:14 a.m. on Oct. 14, 2022, the Illinois State Police were called to Canalport Avenue on southbound Interstate 94 following a report of an armed carjacking.
The Chicago Police Department reported that a 34-year-old man from Chicago was the victim of an attempted carjacking incident. The victim was driving his 2020 Dodge Journey when he encountered traffic due to a crash. As he slowed down, he noticed a man wearing a black jacket and ski mask walking towards him while holding a long firearm. The suspect signalled to the victim to step out of the car.
After the victim exited his car, the culprit quickly jumped in and drove away. Fortunately, a passerby recorded the entire incident and uploaded it on YouTube. Thanks to the video, the police could identify a suspect and take necessary action.
According to the authorities, Vahsean Davenport, a 20-year-old individual, has been identified as the perpetrator of the carjacking incident. He has been charged with a Class X Felony, precisely one count of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking.
According to reports, Davenport has been released from ISP custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 3.
