Man released on non-monetary bail with $450,00 worth of fentanyl misses his court date
In Allegheny County Common Pleas Court on Monday morning, a man apprehended with $1.6 million fentanyl and released on nonmonetary bond failed to appear for his scheduled hearing.
On August 31, Yan Carlos Pichardo Cepeda, a 27-year-old resident of New York, was apprehended at the Greyhound Bus station while carrying fentanyl in his bookbag and luggage.
The authorities apprehended him with a staggering nine kilograms of the lethal drug, which amounts to 450,000 doses.
The individual in question is currently facing charges of possession to distribute, along with several other related offences.
On September 1, Magistrate Judge released him, a decision later contested by Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala.
According to a statement from DA Stephen Zappala, his office was not informed about releasing the individual who was found in possession of a drug linked to nearly two deaths per day in Allegheny County. Judge Xander Orenstein was responsible for the release.
The judge presiding over the case has now issued a warrant for Cepeda’s arrest that extends to the entire country.
