Two years after groping a woman on a flight to Newark, a man from New York has been sentenced to two years in prison for his crime. He pleaded guilty to the offense.
According to a press release by the Department of Justice, Ryan Manuella received a sentence from a federal judge in New Jersey for his involvement in an assault that occurred on a United Airlines flight from Denver International Airport in 2021.
According to federal authorities, Manuella, a 30-year-old resident of upstate Cheektowaga, took advantage of the moment when her fellow passenger got up to use the restroom and swiped a pair of sunglasses from the woman sitting by the window.
The victim was clearly distressed and visibly shaken, as tears streamed down her face. She then raised her voice and shouted for the perpetrator to stay away from her.
According to a criminal complaint, the woman jumped out of her seat and immediately asked a flight attendant for help.
According to federal officials, Manuella had already confessed to committing assault with the intention of committing another felony. He also acknowledged that his actions caused the woman significant emotional distress.
After serving his prison term, he was put on three years of probation as well.
